Chapter 9 Section 1 Key Concepts
-Describe how the size and growth of the human population has changed in the last 200 years. -Define four properties that scientists use to predict population sizes. -Make predictions about population trends based on age structure. -Describe the four stages of the demographic transition. -Explain why different countries may be at different stages of the demographic transition. Demography The study of populations, but most often refers to the study of human populations. Age structure The distribution of ages in a specific population at a certain time. Survivorship The percentage of members of a group that are likely to survive to any given age. Fertility Rate The number of babies born each year per 1,000 women in a population. Migration The movement of individuals between areas. Life Expectancy The average number of years members of a population are likely to live. Demographic Transition A model that describes how economic and social changes affect population growth rates. |
Age Structure
Fertility Rate
Arable Land
Least Developed Countries
Graphs are really simple. in the case of this graph you need to put the years on the bottom and the population on the left

Chapter 9 Section 2 Key Concepts
-Describe three problems caused by rapid human population growth -Compare population growth problems in more-developed countries and less developed countries. -Analyze strategies countries may use to reduce their population growth. -Describe worldwide population projections into the next century. Infrastructure The basic facilities and services that support a community, such as public water supplies, sewer lines, power plants, roads, subways, schools, and hospitals. Arable Land Land that can be used to grow crops. Urbanization The movement of people from rural areas to cities. Least Developed Countries Countries that show few signs of development and in some cases have increasing death rates, while birth rates remain high. |
